Tom Felton got paid £14 million to appear in Harry Potter for 31 minutes

You might be surprised to learn that Felton appeared for just half an hour across all eight movies.

Despite being one of the main characters, the Rise of the Planet of the Apes star had little more than half an hour of screen time, which is less than most Netflix shows.

In fact, if you watched every single scene that Felton appeared in, it would take less time than it would to watch an episode of Stranger Things.

Of course, it feels like so much more because Malfoy was such a huge part of the Harry Potter storyline.

You probably won't be surprised to learn that Felton's screentime throughout the Harry Potter series is much less than Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson or Rupert Grint, who had 539 minutes, 205 minutes and 211 minutes, respectively - but surprisingly it was even less than Hagrid, who managed to rack up a solid 45 minutes and 45 seconds.

That's more than the Dark Lord himself, who had 37 minutes and 15 seconds, but Hagrid definitely deserved every second he got.

So, while Felton only featured in less than three percent of the overall series, he walked away with a hefty paycheque of £14 million - that's £451,613 per minute.

Not a bad deal, if you ask me.

The actor was just 13-years-old when Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone began filming, and considering most kids that age are usually only familiar with the money in their piggy banks, it's not that surprising that Felton apparently wasn't the most sensible with his earnings.
Warner Bros.

According to the Express in 2010, Felton had previously told The Daily Mail that he'd spent much of his money on 'typical teenage stuff'.

"I bought a lot of rubbish things that kids buy: skateboards and clothes and typical teenage stuff. And, as soon as I could, I wasted a lot of money on cars - BMWs mostly - for myself and my family," he explained.

"My mum told me: 'You have worked hard for it so get what you want, but beware, you will lose money on cars'. And she was right."

Felton reportedly ended up getting in trouble with the taxman after splashing the cash, and at one point even had 'the bailiff at the door', but he later managed to get a grip on his finances thanks to the help of an accountant.Featured Image Credit: Jun Sato/WireImage/Warner Bros

Key requirements of Harry Potter UK casting call for new Harry, Ron and Hermione in upcoming TV series
We've already had movies but now there's going to be a Harry Potter TV series

A casting call has gone out across the UK in an attempt to find the new Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

HBO and Warner Bros are working on a Harry Potter TV show that's meant to be a more faithful adaptation of the books and will span several years, as presumably the actors will age up with their characters.

While Harry Potter fans have had a crack at casting some of the roles with actors they'd like to see in the series, the actual casting has begun at last.

A UK wide casting call has gone out to try and find the kids who will have a crack at playing Harry, Ron and Hermione.

Sadly for all the middle-aged Harry Potter fans who think they'd give it a good go and bring a lot of passion to the role, there are some important requirements that the kids who ultimately get the role will have to meet to be in with a chance of getting the part.
Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are Harry, Ron and Hermione to many people (Warner Bros)

At the moment, they're only considering children who live in the UK or Ireland who will be aged between nine and 11 in April 2025.

Anyone who wants to apply will need to create two videos, the first a 30 second snippet of them performing something like a poem or short story of their choice.

However, the story can't be anything Harry Potter related and the child will have to use their own accent so they know what their prospective Harry, Ron and Hermione will sound like.

The second video can be up to a minute-long where the kid will have to say where they live, as well as giving their date of birth and height.

They'll also get a bit of time to tell the casting team about themselves, and to talk about friends, family or pets they're close to.

The Cast It website has all the details and is the only place anyone hoping their kid might be the next young wizard can apply and the deadline for applications is 31 October this year.

Naturally you'd expect this to be a multiple year thing so anyone going for this would need to be prepared to be doing it for quite a long time.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav said that he expected the show to debut in 2026, USA Today reports.

A Harry Potter series is always going to stir up strange feelings considering the movies were such an iconic adaptation of the books.

Try as they might this new show is going to be compared to the movies, though some Potter fans might hope promises of a faithful adaptation mean some bits that got cut from the movies will be kept in.

J.K. Rowling has also become a rather more controversial figure compared to the days when the movies were being released.

She recently said that she would 'never forgive' Daniel Radcliffe after he apologised to the transgender community for the 'pain' Rowling had caused them following her comments.Featured Image Credit: Warner Bros

The documentary synopsis reads: "The film is a coming-of-age story of stuntman David Holmes, a prodigious teenage gymnast from Essex, England, who is selected to play Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double in the first Harry Potter film, when Daniel is just eleven.

"Over the next ten years, the two form an inextricable bond, but on the penultimate film, a tragic accident on set leaves David paralysed with a debilitating spinal injury, turning his world upside down.

"As Daniel and his closest stunt colleagues rally to support David and his family in their moment of need, it is David’s extraordinary spirit of resilience that becomes their greatest source of strength and inspiration."

Cast as Radcliffe's stunt-double, Holmes was responsible for doing all the risky tricks and filming moments the star couldn't - like flying about on broomsticks and motorbikes.

But while filming on the 2009 set for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, he was involved in a freak accident.

Holmes was filming a 'jerk back' stunt - designed to replicate the effects of an explosion - when he slammed into a wall and was seriously injured.

Back in 2014, he spoke to The Mirror about his terrifying accident on set of the Wizarding World.

He said: "I hit the wall and then landed on the crash mat underneath.

"My stunt co-ordinator grabbed my hand and said, 'squeeze my fingers'. I could move my arm to grab his hand but I couldn't squeeze his fingers.

"I looked into his eyes and that's when I realised what happened was major.

"I remember slipping in and out of consciousness because of the pain levels.

"I'd broken a bone before, so recognising that weird feeling across my whole body from my fingertips right down to my toes, I knew I had really done some damage."
Sky/HBO

He was rushed to the local Watford General Hospital from the set and then transferred to Royal National Orthopaedic hospital in London.

Here, Holmes was told he would be paralysed from the chest down and would have only limited movement in his arms and hands.

The documentary synopsis adds: "Featuring candid personal footage shot over the last decade, behind-the-scenes material from Holmes’ stunt work, scenes of his current life and intimate interviews with David, Daniel Radcliffe, friends, family, and former crew, the film also reflects universal themes of living with adversity, growing up, forging identities in an uncertain world, and the bonds that bind us together and lift us up."

And for David Holmes, a then-teenage gymnast from Essex, that meant playing the lead’s stunt double in the first six films.

He’d been trusted with doing all the risky tricks and moments Radcliffe couldn’t - so among other things, he got to fly about on broomsticks and motorbikes.

But one day on the set of Deathly Hallows: Part 1, his life changed forever.

Now paralysed from a freak accident, Holmes lives his life in a wheelchair.

His life both before and after the accident is to be explored in a new Sky and HBO documentary executive produced by the main Harry actor himself, titled David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived.

“Over the next 10 years, the two form an inextricable bond, but on the penultimate film a tragic accident on set leaves David paralysed with a debilitating spinal injury, turning his world upside down," a synopsis for the documentary reads.

Holmes took to Instagram yesterday (24 October) to announce the new show, writing: "Being a stuntman was my calling in life, and doubling Harry was the best job in the world. In January 2009, I had a stunt rehearsal accident that changed my life forever. This film tells the story of not just my achievements in front of camera, but also the challenges I face every day, and my overall attitude to life after suffering a broken neck."

Holmes was rushed to hospital where he was able to undergo major surgery, though he was left devastated when he woke up.

Not only was he left paralysed from the waist down, but he was also left with only limited movement in his arms and hands.

Since becoming paralysed, Holmes has taken up automobile racing and also launched a podcast with Radcliffe, called Cunning Stunts, where they interviewed other stunt actors about the risks they face.

Harry Potter extra says Michael Gambon 'spat in her face' in scene which was cut from the movie
A Harry Potter extra has opened up about one of her 'career highlights' when Michael Gambon accidentally spat in her face.

A Harry Potter extra has opened up about one of her 'career highlights' when Michael Gambon accidentally spat in her face.

Samantha Clinch - a former child star, Hogwarts Alumni, frequency raiser and story teller - has taken to TikTok to Alohomora some of the behind-the-scenes secrets from one of the most famous franchises in the world. Prepare to fully relate to the spit situation:

Clinch was initially cast as an extra, but later took on the role of Eloise Midgen in The Goblet of Fire (2005) and she was lucky enough to work alongside the acting legend that is Michael Gambon - who played the role of Hogwart's headmaster, Professor Albus Dumbledore.

Gambon sadly passed away at the age of 82, his family confirming his death earlier this week on Thursday (28 September).

"Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia.

"Michael was 82. We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love," the statement read.
Warner Bros. Pictures

The day before Gambon's passing, Clinch coincidentally shared one of her 'career highlights' which was when she filmed a scene with Gambon for The Goblet of Fire.

Clinch - who was an extra for the movie at the age of 13-years-old - claims Dumbledore 'spat in [her] face'.

Obviously it was accidental, Clinch noting Gambon was delivering a very intense line and stood very close to her in the scene. She explains: "Goblet of fire there's a moment where Dumbledore needs to announce that the dementors are coming and obviously this is absolutely terrifying, terrifying news for everyone involved.

"But [...] Dumbledore being Dumbledore, there's a lot, a lot at stake for him. [...] Anyway he comes over to the table that I'm at and puts his hand on my shoulder, looks at me directly in the face and said, 'The dementors are coming!'"
TikTok/ @samanthaclinch

And given the velocity of not just Dumbledore's words but how Gambon was saying them, unfortunately a bit of spit ended up spraying in Clinch's face.

"Quite literally frothing at the mouth [...] there was spit everywhere [...] I might have got it in my eye. Dumbledore spat in my eyes," she says.

If you're wondering why that scene isn't in the film? Well, Clinch doesn't know why, but argues it would've made a 'great viewing'.

Look, it happens and Clinch resolves noting it's actually a 'career highlight' for her.
